Wrecking Is Not About Destruction

Selling Your Junk Cars For Cash: The 3 Things You Will Need To Complete This Process

Whether your old vehicle has stopped working, has significant body damage, or has simply outlived its usefulness, you can still get cash for your junk car by choosing to sell it to a local salvage or auto-wrecking yard. While this process is typically quite fast and easy for anyone to complete, there are a few things that you will need in order to successfully turn your junk car into a new pile of cash.

Information Required For An Offer

The very first step in the process of selling your junk car for cash is to get one or more offers from local salvage yards that are interested in buying your vehicle. In order to complete this step of the process, you will need to be able to tell them the year, make, and model of the vehicle. You will also need to provide information about any aftermarket parts that will be included in the sale, as well as any parts which may have been removed from the car prior to the sale. Without this information in hand, you will not be able to get an accurate offer when contacting the salvage yards in your area.

Paperwork Required To Complete Sale

Just as with all vehicle sales, a salvage yard will require you to complete some paperwork before they are willing to pay you for your car. The purpose of this paperwork is to establish that you own the vehicle that you are selling and that there are no outstanding liens against the vehicle. The most common, and typically the easiest, way that this is accomplished is by providing the salvage yard with a signed vehicle title. In the absence of a valid title, salvage yards will require you to provide them with alternative proof of ownership documents such as your vehicle registration, bill of sale, or your insurance card. You may also be asked to sign a legal document declaring that you are the only rightful owner of the vehicle.

Key Required To Maximize Payment

While not all salvage yards will require you to have a key for the vehicle in order to sell it, you will often find that they are not willing to pay quite as much if you are not able to provide them with a key. This is because vehicles that are sold without a key will have fewer options available when it comes to the salvage yard making money from the purchase of the vehicle. For example, salvage yards will often attempt to sell as many usable parts as possible before finally crushing the car and selling the resulting scrap metal. If the salvage yard does not have a working key for the vehicle, this can limit the number of parts that they are able to sell before crushing the car. Consequently, if you wish to maximize your payment you will need to locate the key for your junk car before selling it.
